Prompted by comments on LACTNET, I read and reviewed the article.
I agree that one gets the sense that the author is well-read (although not
necessarily on the entire breastfeeding literature), but does not have a lot
of hands-on experience. The tip-off to me in these types of reviews is when
"breast feeding" or "breast-feeding", instead of "breastfeeding" is the
terminology used. I have seen this before, and the quality of the articles
seem to reflect one's position in, or not in, the "breastfeeding" community.
Sometimes it is more typical of one's position in the grant-receiving area.
The cited article is quite cursory in its review as there is more data out
there than Dr. Buist alludes to.
Finally, Dr. Buist's connections to certain drug companies certainly makes
it somewhat suspect about what she has chosen to write and the conclusions
drawn.
The article did not really tell me a whole lot, but I will add it to my
collection of information on breastfeeding and psychotropic drugs.
