With all due respect, online programs filling the need of the new
requirements is beside the point. The point is that some of the new areas of
education and testing are irrelevant to helping mothers and babies find
success with breastfeeding.

Even when those courses come about, they'll still be out of the reach of
some, and they will still be a needless barrier to the credential that could
empower more of us to help moms.

Best,
Amy West, CLC (for whom the CLC credential will have to be enough)

PS: For me, personally? I'm not inclined to spend time and money on
educational components that don't further my abilities to do the work I'm
pursuing. If these were skills that every IBCLC needed, across the board, in
all areas of practice, there'd be no objection. But they're not. They're a
very specific set of skills that apply to one area of practice. And
personally, I'm not inclined to spend thousands of dollars and lots of hours
on skills and education that are not material to my work.
