Here is what NYLCA demands of its members and what we require for those who list their services on our website. We have no control over who "practices" regardless even if they don't abide by the Code and have merely taken a 3 hour course or no course at all, but we can enforce who is eligible for membership and who is listed on our website. Too many websites put referrals up merely because someone pays them to do so. NYLCA didn't use to enforce the terms. Now that we can track membership and attendance at events via our website, it is much easier to suspend the listing until a member comes back into compliance. For the most part this is merely after they forget to pay their membership after repeated reminders.

Before the tracking NYLCA only had 19 paid members. Now we have over 100.

Information About the Terms of Agreement for Listing Your Services On Our Website

The New York Lactation Consultant Association (NYLCA) requires that any individual whose services are listed on our website:

    accurately portray their professional qualifications.
abide by the International Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes
    maintain current membership with NYLCA
attend at least one event every 12 months

Failure to comply with the above guidelines may result in removal from the website.

You may contact the NYLCA Ethics Committee if you believe that a provider on this website is not complying with these terms.
