I agree with Nancy.......... sounds more like this new mom hasn't really
allowed herself to feel her new role yet. Is there any possibility of
inviting her in for an informational consult, where you can have a nice,
relaxed chat about her new baby in general, her expectations, etc.? So
many working moms are so focused on work right after delivery and never
give themselves a chance to bond; they are too busy getting ready for
separation, and may avoid intimacy in order to avoid hurt. I often pitch
working and bfg to moms by telling a story of a bottlefeeding friend many
years ago: Mary found the "perfect" caretaker, and her baby loved her.
Loved her so much, in fact, that baby cried when mom came to pick her up!
Now, I know mom, and she was a good mom, but baby bonded well to the
sitter. Mom expressed some jealousy, and wished she was breastfeeding,
because that relationship is *exclusive* to mom alone. Moms and babies
need this tie in the working situation!
