Katherine, Your post about the mom with severe nipple pain curled my toes. You said it looked like vasospasm. Has her doctor considered treating this like Raynaud's Syndrome? I think magnesium supplements and niacin may help. 
I found a reference to a meta-analysis published in Rheumatology, 2005 which confirmed the benefit of treating Raynaud's with calcium channel blockers such as nifedipine. Please let us know if some remedy is found! Rowena
