Pat, thanks so much for the Paula Meier reference. I read her paper "Increased Lactation Risk for Late Preterm Infants

and Mothers: Evidence and Management Strategies to Protect Breastfeeding"

and she states " Once the infant gains the expected amount of weight on exclusive feeds at breast after the mother has discontinued pumping, the clinician can be assured that breastfeeding can now bemanaged as it would for a healthy term infant." 

 But I still cannot find what "expected amount of weight" means. Are we still then to measure a 36 weeker on the same growth expectations as a 40-42 weeker?   Meier also mentions the benefits of leaving a good scale with mother for pre/post feed weighs. I am happy to leave her a scale, but after hearing Dr. Jack Newman speak out so strongly against that type of intervention, I am wondering if that truly is beneficial.
