This is in response to the query for feedback on the symphony pump. Our
hospital trialed it and subsequently purchased it. We use it exclusively
for our SCN moms who may be pumping long-term (ie, several weeks for a
preemie). The feedback has been very positive. The mothers like the 2
minute rapid pumping before expression pumping kicks in. Unfortunately, no
rental stations in our area have it available for rent, so the mothers are
restricted to using it when they come to the hospital for visits. Some of
the mothers say they like the classic better - stronger suction. No mother
has told me that they feel like they're getting less milk and some feel
they get more with the Symphony, but not significantly more. Another
frequent comment is that they like the Classic or whatever they've been
using better because they feel they got used to the pump they started
with. Which adds further credence to my thoughts all these years that
breastfeeding and pumping are a mind game. It is nice that there are so
many options available today.
