With my first daughter 39 years old, the gp on the first visit at 5 days said, "oh my, a tongue-tie, here let me fix that" and that was that! No pain, no problems. He was 75 years old and a breastfeeding advocate. The fourth child born 23 years ago had a complete tongue-tie - and a top-notch pediatrician. No clip, pain for 8 weeks. Nursed till 3.5. I was not going to NOT nurse. Today, he wishes his tie was clipped. Things have changed and are going back to the way they were!

We just discussed this at our NAPNAP conf. I think the reason we are seeing so many is that so many moms are initiating breastfeeding! In days gone by, if ob or family dr noted a tie, he fixed it. Mom proceeded to BF without problem.
Today:
1. Drs don't recognize TT
2. Drs don't realize the impact TT has on BF 3. Drs don't know how to fix it (not trained) 4. Don't believe it occurs so frequently because for so many years it didn't matter - bottle fed anyway.

I had 11 mothers at LLL mtg last week - 5 were having TT issues!!!!!!!!!!!!
I could see or feel them. Showed one mom how to feel it herself. I am SO frustrated! Pat in SNJ
