Lactnetters,
I got a call from a mom today whose baby is losing weight and the Dr. says
full formula supplimentation during day you can nurse at night. Baby has gone
from 8.12 at birth to 9.5 at 4 wks
to 9.3 at 8 wks. Urine output was inadequate and baby was only pooping once a
week. This is an experienced mom that has nursed 3 other babies and she is
quite concerned. BIG NOTE: she has gotten breast implants between baby #3 and
this one. She states it is untop of the muscle with a half moon cut
underneath and it is soft. ( I don't know much about implant so I tried to
find out what I could about the incision). Baby is currently getting 8oz
bottles in 4 oz increments during the day and she is nursing him at night.
She states he latches on well and seems to nurse well. We need to rebuild her
supply as she really wants to nurse this baby and is not happy about
suppliments. What do you all feel is the best course of action.
Please excuse my ineptness as I am only just starting to study to become an
LC and there seems to be so much to consider. I would have suggested an SNS
without hesitation before connecting with all this knowledge here on Lactnet.
Is this still appropriate. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Ilene ( who seems to have forgotten everything shes learned for the last 9
years as a LLL leader)
