Does anyone know of any studies that may have been done regarding dairy
consumption during pregnancy and it's effect on later breastfeeding?
I had just done some searching on this very question for a client. This is
what I found in Lars A Hanson's book, "Immunobiology of Human Milk: How
Breastfeeding Protects Babies," Pharmasoft Publishing, 2004 p.155.

In atopic families, mothers have tried to adhere to a strict diet that
avoids common food allergens during later pregnancy. 217 A 5 year follow up did
not show any effect. The same diet applied during the first 3 months of
lactation did diminish the appearance of atopic dermatitis in the babies. 218 This
effect remained at the age of 4 years. 219 Another similar large prophylaxis
study using a diet during the third trimester of pregnancy and through
lactation gave a significant reduction of atopic dermatitis, urticaria, and /or
gastrointestinal disease during the first year of life. 220. At 2 years of age,
the prevalence of allergic rhinitis, asthma, and positive skin tests to
inhalant allergens were unaffected. A recent Cochrane analysis applying the rules
of scrutiny of “evidence-based medicine” summarized that an antigen
avoidance diet eaten by high-risk women during pregnancy is unlikely to protect her
baby from atopic disease. Antigen avoidance diets during lactation may
decrease the risk for her baby to attract atopic eczema but better studies are
needed. 221

avoidance of eggs, cow's milk, and fish during late pregnancy- a 5-year follow-up of
a randomized study. J Allergy Clin Immunol 89: 709-713, 1992.
218. Hattevig, G, Kjellman B, Sigurs N, et al: The effect of maternal
avoidance of eggs, cow's milk, and fish during lactation on the development of IgE,
IgG, and IgA antibodies in infants. J Allergy Clin Immunol 85:108-115, 1990.

milk, and fish during lactation: effect on allergic manifestations, skin-prick
tests, and specific IgE antibodies in children at age 4 years. Pediatrics

infant food-allergen avoidance on development of atopy in early infancy: a
