Susan Burger brought up a discussion point on how positioning might
affect mother/baby interaction.  I just came across a great, practical
article on positioning in LEAVEN (missed originally because I threw it
into some box during a crazy relocation.) The author quotes a lot of
Lactnetters, so I'm sure it was mentioned here when it was published,
but there's newcomers all the time...

really helped me better understand the football hold (never one of my
favorites -- and the article also encourages the helper to get past such
pre-conceived ideas).  One useful point was that the football hold
usually demands (for most breasts) a more definitely asymmetrical latch,
with the baby more under the breast, which, to return to Susan's
question, does seem to allow the baby to gaze up lovingly. Too often,
the urge is to latch the baby straight-on, which can bury the baby's
nose in a soft breast.
