Cops: Mom's Milk Caused Son's Death

ORANGE, Calif. (AP) - A woman whose 6-week-old boy was found dead more than a
year ago is being sought after tests showed the baby died from a
methamphetamine overdose transmitted through breast milk.

Cynthia Ann Pinson admitted using the drug after her son was found dead in his
crib in October 1996. Police said an arrest warrant wasn't issued until
Wednesday after toxicology reports confirmed the overdose.

Mrs. Pinson, 38, was being sought on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter and
cruelty to the child, Robert Henry Sage. It was not immediately clear why it
took so long for charges to be filed. Phone messages left for investigators
were not returned Thursday.

Other women have been implicated in deaths linked to drug-tainted breast milk.

A Tucson, Ariz., woman was charged with murder in August after allegedly
killing her daughter through heroin use. A Bakersfield woman was acquitted of
murder in 1994 after her 2-month-old son died from what prosecutors said was
methamphetamine-poisoned milk. She was convicted of child endangerment.
