7 month old baby and mom has had persistent yeast off and on again since birth. Moms pain is now getting to the point where she wants to quit. She has a history of plug ducts, blebs, overabundant supply issues, etc. and treatment with diflucan and GV. She called the other day complaining that there is pain with the MER and alot of nipple and breast pain in between feedings. Mom also mentions that it hurts to pump and even with a rented hospital grade pump it is causing discomfort but somewhat a little less then latching the baby. The pain is primarily at the nipple and areola area on the surface and behind. How do I know the difference between this being persistent yeast or a possible bacterial infection? Or both? My consult with her is tomorrow and she has seen a LC already and been to LLL meetings and I am her last hope. Any suggestions?
