no, jack is not reading lactnet these days, but it is true about so many
things, if it ain't broke, why fix it? i seem to recall him saying that about
thrush, if the mother and baby are not bothered by it, there is no need to
treat it. around my area, i find doctors quite willing to prescribe nystatin,
telling the mother to use it and wipe it off before nursing (!) and not
prescribing for the baby. everyone seems to get thrush that is quite
resistant to the nystatin. i recommend gentian violet first, and if that
doesn't clear it up (usually does when the thrush is "new" not an ongoing
long case), then i recommend oral treatment as in hale. i don't think it is
worthwhile to even bother with nystatin, although that may vary in other
areas.
