In one rare and unusual case a mother presented in my office with a baby quite like that who was getting adequate but not too much milk volume at day 10, one pound below birth weight and was stooling up a storm. The pediatrician had sent her immediately to me as she was stumped. When I saw the latch and the baby's diaper I asked, "..and how are you dear?" That's when she began to cry. She had a 4th degree tear repair and had been taking stool softeners but there had been no results yet! For her anyway. I encouraged an alternate means of getting results and discontinuation of the stool softener. She called her OB/GYN, got her problem fixed and happily breast fed for 12 months.(mother's goal) The mother was happy with my quick fix, the OB was happy w
ith my care, the Pediatrician was happy with my care and the baby was happy to gain.
