Currently no 3 month objective exists, instead the current objectives
are breastfeeding "in the early postpartum period" which is generally
accepted to be at hosp. discharge, bf at 6 months, and bf at 12 months.
All current objectives are ANY bf. Exclusive bf objectives at 3 and 6
months have been proposed but final word has not yet been sent that they
have been approved. If approved they would begin to be reported as of
2005.

All bf objectives are part of chapter 16. The entirety of HP 2010 is
available to anyone free of charge online.

On a lighter note - when I first skimmed this question I read it to be
whether the items were about one breast or both breasts...oops! :)

Subject: Healthy People 2010 question

Does anyone know if the suggested percentages of women breastfeeding at
hospital discharge and at 3 months/6 months postpartum reflects
exclusive breastfeeding or both breast and formula?

Thanks,
Brenda Phipps, BS, IBCLC
