Dr. Raymond Adelman wrote the following information in a Phoenix, AZ
newspaper, March 31, 2003. Please feel free to send your questions or

Q: Should breast-fed babies get vitamin D to prevent rickets?

A. Yes. Rickets is usually caused by inadequate vitamin D intake., leading to
poor mineral deposits in growing bones. It can be associated with growth
failure, irritability, deformed bones and even siezures.
Although breast milk is ideal nutrition for infants, it's short of
vitamin D. Breatsfed babies will need a daily supplement. Bottle-fed babies
should get adequete vitimin D from formula.

I thought the people that work or volunteer with mothers that are considering
to breastfeed or are already breastfeeding may have a comment or two to this
newspaper.
Thanks,
Annette Leibovitz
