Dear Lactnetters,
May name is Jane Erwin. Currently am reentering nursing out of my love for
it. Began by taking the Lactation Educator course at UCLA Extension. A world
of wonder opened to by mind. One thing led to another and currently I am
about to begin the Childbirth Educator Course at UCLA, then next year the
Certified Lactation Consultant program. I am not IBCLC, yet and find it
mystifying the different certification options. Unable at this point to
distinguish what is essential for thorough background for helping mothers and
what is overkill. Any clarification would be greatly appreciated.
To Robin Frees, in my judgment, when attending another LC's monthly class at
a local hospital, covering everything that can go wrong in a prenatal class
is a setup for "failure". I appreciated your confirming that.
It seemed to me that focusing parents to be on what will work, encouraging
them to budget $100.00 for PP LC consulting, and enlisting the significant
other's(father, boyfriend, mother, etc.) support and involvement are a few of
the useful approaches.

Thank you all for the great dialogue on the lactnet. Wow! I am impressed.
