Friends,

I am working with a mom who has a 10 week old baby who has been diagnosed
by 2 doctors and an LC as having thrush. Baby also is exhibiting signs of
thrush.

Mom tried nystatin for her and baby, no help.
Mom tried gentian violet for her and baby, no help and baby got blisters in
his mouth.

Doctor will not prescribe diflucan because of concerns about the baby's
liver being damaged. Doctor believes that the thrush will go away by
itself when the baby becomes three months old. Doctor is also a
breastfeeding mother and thus has greater credibility with the mother.

I will be the first one to admit I don't know everything, however, if it
goes away by itself, why do we treat it? Has anyone heard of thrush going
away by itself? Are there any references on the safety of diflucan that I
could pass on to the pediatrician?

Thanks,
Laura Barmby
