Hello Ladies! I have struggled whether or not to write about this but I
have a different beef with IBCLE and the exam. I have always understood
that the exam was "an entry level" exam. With that being the case, why,
oh why, must it be taken time after time, every ten years? As an RN, I
must re-certify by earning 30 CEU's every two years. That makes sense
to me because I am keeping up by continuing to learn and trying to stay
current.

After certifying with cerps, an IBCLC has to do nothing if she doesn't
want to over the next five years (except prepare for taking another
"entry level exam"). (Not trying to boast, but I have taken the exam
twice never scoring below 95%. What is the probability I will ever
flunk any exam in the future? Has anyone who has passed two exams in a
row ever flunked the next?)

Nothing gives me more pleasure than an exciting lecture, new research,
and learning from others at a conference. It is those experiences that
make me a better LC.

Yes, I guess all that learning costs more money than sitting for yet
another exam, but for me subsequent exams are worthless and a waste of
time and effort. Please enlighten me if I am missing something here!

Should I hit the "send" button?

Kathleen
