Hello Everyone!

Hope someone can give me some info. Talked to a mom today who has a 3
month old baby(born premature) who is having a hard time keeping her
supply up. Her milk didn't come in for over a week(unusual?). Dr. put
her on Reglan which increased her supply up to about 2 ozs. every 2 hrs.
She stopped taking the Reglan after 20 days and milk supply dwindled
again.

Her baby nurses about every 2 hrs. still and mom pumps and supplements
with formula after trying to nurse. Baby pulls off crying after 5
mins.- mom switches, baby does the same-mom switches again, baby does the
same.

Mom was diagnosed with thyroid problems during this pregnancy and is
on synthiroid(her sp.). This is her 4th baby-other 3 nursed
successfully.(her 2 yr. old nursed well-she leaked a lot with her)

My conclusion was the thyroid disorder. Am I on target? Should we be
looking elsewhere? I suggested an SNS-any other ideas? I feel like
it's right there. Any info would be greatly appreciated as soon as
possible. I need to get back with her on Sunday or Monday.

TIA Julie Miller, B.C. [log in to unmask]
