A baby born 4 weeks early (36 wks gestation) is one of those "borderline
premies" or "near-term" infants. They often look like full term infants but act
like premies. They usually cannot maintain a mother's milk supply alone -
mom's need to pump and supplement with their own milk. This infant should have
regained birth weight by 14 days at the outset, and should be gaining 20-30
gm/day at a minimum. This infant needed supplement BEFORE it was given.
Has anyone evaluated mother's milk volume?
