As I said toward the end of my post, perhaps I was being too
sarcastic based on a personal experience.  I apologize if it seemed
too critical.  That certainly wasn't my intent.
I really admire those moms who stick it out in spite of problems and
even when we can't seem to find that "magic answer".
You stated: "She has seen many professionals, each of whom offer her
information that doesn't actually solve her problem."  One of the
things that's so frustrating to us is the fact that this isn't an
exact science.  There are times when the solutions we offer have to
be educated guesses.  It's important that we be sure the mom
realizes this.  While in some situations, we have definite,
evidence-based solutions to offer, in other cases, our suggestions
are more in the line of: "I don't know just what's causing your
problem.  It might be......in which case it might help to.......or
it might be................. etc."  When I'm stumped, I will often
tell a mom that I have no experience with her specific situation,
but in theory whe might want to try such and such.  Of course, being
in a metropolitan area, we LCs often contact each other when we have
a "stumper" or may refer her to another LC with more experience in
that particulat type of problem.
I don't know whether or not the LC in your case was abrupt with the
mom and gave her the impression that what she suggested was the
ultimate answer.  I would hope not, but we're not all functioning at
the same level, and any of us could have a day when we don't have
the ideal patience or time to fully explore a situation.  I would
hope, however, that we help the moms understand the difference
between proven solutions and the ones we suggest when we're really
guessing.  I like to tell a mom, "If what we've discussed doesn't
help, please call back and we'll go to the "B" list."
