 I agree. My main worry is when weight gain alone is being used as the main
way of assessing bf  'success'...and it is no use being relaxed about slow
weight gain (as some HPs may be here) if you don't have the first idea
about how to check that everything *is* okay *despite* an apparently less
than wonderful weight gain.  I feel equally frustrated when a baby appears
to be gaining well, and is still miserable and feeding all the time without
ever being content, and the HPs say there's nothing wrong as the weight
gain appears ok.

I agree that mega-weight gains of 8 ounces plus a week do tend to be
associated with happy, effective bf, and measly weight gains of one or two
grudging ounces a week tend to be associated with a miserable bf experience
for both mother and baby.

But some babies do gain slowly, without there being anything wrong. There
is a wide range of 'normal'.
