Dear Kathy!

I´m not an expert, but this could be food allergies, too.
My own daughter have severe food allergies and I know
far too many allergic children. I follow medical
writing about allergy here in Finland.

Some babies spit a lot, are very fussy and their sleep is
very disturbed when they have an allergy toward something
they or their breastfeeding mothers eat. Is there anything
unusual about baby´s stools or does he have a rash? Or
red cheeks after feedings? Or other allergic symptoms?

Last summer my nursing daughter got very fussy and
started to sleep poorly when I tested if I could eat
strawberries. When I quit eating them (5-10 strawberries
a day at the end) after five days, she became normal,
happy girl again. She is almost two years now.

With a baby this young, I would suspect allergies
towards basic food ingredients like cow´s milk
protein (sometimes baby gets symptoms from beef,
too), egg, or whey, oat, barley and rye. Peanuts
and soy could be the problem, too. Or all of them...

If other things seem to be ok and mother wants to
check everything, then she could test, if the food
ingredients are the problem by eliminating one
thing at a two week period and following baby´s
symptoms.
