Hi all
I am meeting with a woman tomorrow for a pre-natal consultation. She is
now at 37 weeks, first pregnancy. She has developed gestational
diabetes. I am wondering if there is something special that I need to
tell her because of this. I have read the Breastfeeding Answer Book and
Ruth Lawrence and searched the archives but do not have enough hard
information to deal with this yet.

My current questions:
1- Does anyone have a good infant hypoglycemia protocol to share?
2- In what percentage of babies are people really seeing this? Both
sources above say about 50%. Does that match with people's clinical sense?
3- How high is the increased risk of jaundice? Is the jaundice related
to the inadequate feeding schedule that seems to be more common for these
babies or is it truly related to the maternal diabetes?
4- Is the risk of thrush high enough to use any special precautions or
preventive treatments?

Thanks for answering. BTW the mom-to-be is a physician so references
would be greatly appreciated.

Sarah
