Mary,

Recently worked with a mom with severe upper quadrant repeat plugs and final
solution was relieving the milk blister that accompanied them. She did this
and continues to do so, by debriding this tissue overgrowth with a towel (
rubbing area), Hoffman technique and has drastically reduced supply on this
side by reducing feeds to 3x a day on it and using other breast more. It
took her over 2 mos to resolve, seeing two breast surgeons, use of ultrasound
x3, lecithin, phytolocca, etc. and lots of pain and perseverance. She also
started baby on solids at six mos (he was 4 mos when she first called for
help) as in trying to reduce supply one-sided the supply on "good" breast
decreased and has not been able to bring up.

The main cause of all this was, in my opinion, oversupply which she had with
2 other babies, and the fact that she waited so long to contact me (she
readily admits this sadly, too). She is pleased with results and one other
thing I forgot to mention, the first breast surgeon and I concurred that
there may well be an anatomical factor with her ducts that predisposed her to
these plugs, as always in same area and occurred throughout her long BFing
career. If you'd like more detail, feel free to email me privately. Someday
soon plan to formally write up her case as is very interesting.

I received lots of help from Lactnetters on this case for which she and I are
extremely grateful!! Thank you for this forum.
