Hi to all Lactnetters, I am Val, a midwife and L.C in Western Australia.
I have a client that has Hep C and is PCR positive, she is breastfeeding
her 4 week old and I am hoping to get some advice from all of you on
what to do once the baby starts teething. I presume that the risk of
transmission will increase during this period due to inflammation of the
gums, has anyone experienced this situation before and should she be
advised to wean once the teeth start erupting? Her doctor has advised
her to use nipple shields, is there any point in introducing them at 4
weeks. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Many thanks, in
advance! Val
