I think a pharmacist would tell us it isn't a good idea to mix ointments and 
creams.
I don't know why, it's just what I've heard.  Maybe Frank could tell us.

My only problem with all the home made OTC versions is the variability, 
depending on what they buy.

This surely isn't evidence based, beyond the fact that we know it helps :-(
