Marilyn you asked what has been happening in Canada since the launch of BFI
Conference in Vancouver.. Maureen Fjeld, in her report to members of the
Canadian Lactation Consultant Assoc. wrote, " British Columbia, New
Brunswick, and PEI have now designated BFI Implementation Committees and
Sask, and Nova Scotia have designated BFI Implementation Coordinators to
move this initiatiave forward in their areas.

Guidelines for hospitals, assessors and Provincial/Territorial Committees
are written and will be available from the BCC
website"(www.breastfeedingcanada.com). She also writes that the Canada
Prenatal Nutrition Program and AWHONN Canada will join The Breastfeeding
Committee for Canada (BCC).

The BCC was invited to have a representative sit at the table for the
Nutrition Committee of the CPS in February. Maureen Fjeld attended. Health
Canada has just awarded $266,388 to the BCC for the implementation and
evaluation of BFI in Canada over the next 3 years; AND, one hospital in
Quebec and one in B.C. are presently undergoing pre-assessment for BFI
designation. BCC can be contacted through e-mail: [log in to unmask] Becoming a
corresponding member of BCC will allow us all to keep in touch with ongoing
events plus will support the efforts of BCC.
