This is approaching OT, so I'll keep it really short :)

Yes, plain henna turns grey orange.  The key is to mix it with indigo
(black), cassia (golden) or buxus (ash) to get the right shade.  There is a
lot of information at hennaforhair.com and I used one of their "recipes" to
color the white strands in my strawberry blonde hair and it turned out
perfectly.
