Greetings all.... I, too, am working with a Mom who believes she is
suffering from chronic yeast. Baby is 5 weeks old. Mom is on her
second 10-day course of Fluconazole and is working at closely the
suggestions on Pat Gima's Yeast Treatment Plan. No sign of yeast in
babe or dad, but baby is being treated with nystatin ointment. Mom is
using Lotrimin AF on her nipples and has started to crack and bleed
since starting the ointment. Intraductal pain has improved only
slightly after 14 days of Diflucan. Fearing a reaction from the
ointment, she's using it only 2x/day now with some improvement since
Fri. HerHCP has told her there will be no more Diflucan, and if
symptoms don't improve, they will have to try to make another diagnosis.
So..... I'm anxiously reading all posts responding to the original
request for Lacnet's help.
My concern is that there's no HCP in this area who seems comfortable
with treating problems related to the lactating breast. Where does this
mother go from here? She's very dedicated to breastfeeding, but is
close to total frustration. I'm feeling helpless to assist her with
more than verbal support!
