Jessica,
While the plan you have outlined as to what to look at, what to look
for, seems right on target, what really scares me is that she is not
currently lactating.  This means you are sort of helping her with a
medical problem. Don't take this the wrong way, because you are on the
right track, and may be the only one who will truly help her. However,
still remember to stay within your role, which if not LLLL or IBCLC,
I'm not sure if you'd have any liability. It is quite appropriate to
talk to her about scalding milk and re-lactating. Be sure she is clear
that she needs a primary provider to guide the care of her infant,
with frequent check-ups; certainly a second opinion seems in order.
Keep a record of your interactions. This baby could have taste/texture
issues too which might mean sensory integration issues.
