The discussion about whether IBCLC qualified lactation consultants are
required to obtain consent to report to a mother's HCP has surprised and
horrifed me. It just had not occurred to me that if a mother independently
sought the advice of an LC that she would report anything to anyone, unless
the mother requested it (obviously it is a different situation if a mother
is formally referred by another HCP). Perhaps this is because I feel
personally responsible for my own health and would be quite offended
(patronised) if any HCP assumed otherwise.
For those LCs who have been obtaining consents, do many women question why
it is necessary?
