Why must we quantify this? We need to feed our babies for as long as they
seem to need as often as they seem to need. We should stop when our babies
are sated. Every mother and baby will be different. In my experience every
single day can be different. Reassure mothers that it is normal for babies
to feed very frequently (more often than twice an hour) at some period
during the day. Many mothers find that this occurs in the early evening but
some very young babies have reverse wake/sleep patterns and may cluster feed
at other times. Some mothers encourage their babies to cluster feed in the
evenings in the early weeks because they feel that this helps them to learn
to take their longest sleep while everyone else in the house is also trying
to sleep.
Stop counting. stop measuring. Drape all those hooter hiders over the
clocks in the house - and learn to follow the baby.

Warmly
