Got a call today from a mom who had vaginal yeast two to three weeks ago
and took diflucan. All yeast symptoms cleared up. Now she is complaining
of burning stinging pain in left breast which feels like paper cuts. She
says they seem to come from these "little bumps" around her nipple. What
is most likely her montgomery glands. Right breast is fine - no pain at
all when baby nurses. So I am thinking it is not yeast. Her doctor has
again prescribed Diflucan - thinking it is yeast in the breast, but I am
wondering if it might be more likely to be a bacterial infection of the
Montgomery glands. Since we can't diagnose I am wondering how you would
talk to mom about what to do? Any suggestions? Can anyone point me to the
research done a few years ago about ductal yeast - I can't seem to put my
fingers on it now.
