Dryness of the vagina with a baby 6 weeks old?

What is wrong with liberal applications of KY jelly (presume you have that
in the US)? Or the other stuff you can buy over the counter for 'feminine
dryness' - there's a couple of brands here which may well have different
names elsewhere?

I know that women who are menopausal can suffer painful dryness which can
be very sore at times, and they can be helped with oestrogen gels/creams or
HRT. But why mess about with a new nursing mother's hormones when there
are simple, cheap, safe, easily available non-prescription remedies to deal
with what may after all be a very temporary problem?

Or am I missing something?
