This is a CLEAR violation of the code!!!! The first line of the code is "No
advertising of these products to the public", Ross wouldn't attach their
name to the pump if it weren't intended to promote brand loyalty and their
product (infant formula). Discharge packs even with Ross pumps is
prohibited under "No promotion of products in health care facilities". We
cannot forget that these companies make money when breastfeeding fails and
that they are using clever marketing strategies to facilitate breastfeeding
failure- including manufacturing and marketing of breastfeeding aids. You
can bet there will be clubs and coupons etc attached. We also need to
remember that the intent behind the WHO code is important because at the
time it was written, no one could foresee the creative strategies formula
manufacturers would use to circumvent the guidelines. I think this is
another instance of "manipulation by assistance" and "guilt by association".
By accepting their pumps we give credibility to them and to their products!
IMHO, Cathy
