Interesting case this week. Had a 19 y/o gravida 1 mom with an uncomplicated
vaginal delivery c/o mild nausea with feedings the first postpartum day. by
the time of discharge she was beginning to have small amounts of emesis
directly after or with breastfeedings. By the 4th postpartum day mom could
keep no food in her tummy and was in severe distress. She give a history of
severe discomfort with her periods along with nausea and occcsional vomiting
then as well. Married, in a loving relationship and committed to
breastfeeidng until she got sick.

I know this has been talked about in archives, but what is the treatment if
any for severe responses to oxytocin? She was eventually admitted to the
hospital for dehydration with a slightly elevated white count, no fever.
Doctors are totally perplexed....becuase she cannot tolerate anything at
this time, we couldn't even try crackers beofre feeds, etc. Unfortuanlty she
is so miserable, she is thinking about weaning. (And of course they are
giving her reglan and now she is making lots of good milk!)

Any thought on this one?
