Chanita: Here's a direct quote from Ruth Lawrence's text: "Leprosy is not
a contraindication to breastfeeding, according to Jelliffe and Jelliffe.
The urgency of breastfeeding is recognized in leprosariums, where the
infant and mother are treated with diaminodiphenylsulfone by mouth. no
mother-infant contact is permitted except to breastfeed. Dapsone combined
with rifampin is usually effective therapy and has improved the prognosis
in most cases." From Lawrence, RA. Breastfeeding: A guide for the
medical profession, 1994,p. 482. Hope this helps. Alicia.
