The Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine (ABM) is trying to make "Breastfeeding Medicine" a subspeciality of Pediatrics and Family Practice. So far we are meeting a lot of resistance for yet "another "subspecialty. In the meantime we have ABM Fellows (FABM) who meet extensive knowledge, teaching, advocacy, research, etc. standards and require recertication every 8 years. They can be in any primary specialty (OB, Peds, FP, Preventive Med, Public Health, etc.). We are working on an MD exam (like IBLCE exam, but geared to MDs).
