From what I understand, an allergen that presents at birth is not an allergy
to mother's milk, but rather to something the baby was exposed to in utero. In
other words, the baby was born with the antibodies to the particular food.
When I see this kind of situation, I do a thorough search of the mother's
pregnancy diet. Also, as far as diagnosis, this mom could see someone who practices
kinesiology--it is much easier and less frustrating then an elimination diet.
It has worked for my family and my clients and often detects obscure
allergens. Recently a good friend had a very fussy, gassy baby with other signs of
allergy. She was tested and the baby was allergic to avocados, hazelnuts and
carrots (all foods mom ate in very large quantity while pregnant).
