There is a doctor at Loyola Medical Center in Chicago who does liver
transplants and has his patients who are deficient in IgA drink breast milk
prior to transplantation.  Their levels rise, and fall again when they stop
the breast milk.  I have forgotten his name, but believe that I was given
this info from LLLI headquarters.  The MD office sent me an article from the
local newspaper about it.

I had my husband who has pancreatic cancer taking breast milk from the Wake
Med milk bank about six months ago.  He found it so unpalatable that he
stopped, and never really used a regular amount.  I cannot give any positive
or negative results from this use, unfortunately.  He is doing fairly well
still and can eat table food, but tells me that he may resume breast milk if
he cannot tolerate anything else!

There was a bit of discussion on Lactnet at that time because I brought up
the topic, so the person who needs this info should check the Archives.
