In a message dated 99-11-26 11:15:03 EST, you write:

<< Yes, I gulped at this statement, but I also took it to be a quick
assurance to the mom to calm her down. She needed to know her baby would be
ok no matter what while she was undergoing a much more complicated birth for
the second twin. I actually thought it was a good way to have her
matter-of-factly state that she was going to bf. >>

Nothing complicated was going on when they whisked the first baby away. The
birth of twin # 2 (and hemorrhage after) might have been a lot less
complicated if they'd let her breastfeed # 1 while laboring with # 2. The
oxytocin surges might have proved useful.

The scenario, as they set it up with her cervix partially closing again after
# 1's birth and then turning what sounded like a fairly well-engaged vertex #
2 (due to vag exam) to a breech, was bogus! Sure, cord accidents are much
more of a risk for 2nd twins, but the way that whole thing was set up was
ridiculous!

BTW, what was that thing with her fainting during labor and then giving no
explanation? (I don't consider "vagal syncope" an explanation! What the heck
was that?) Never heard/saw that when working L&D!

BTW, did anyone else want to smack the anesthesiologist for some of his snide
remarks? Don't get me going on the giving of an epi or having to search for
the anesthesiologist when they had to do an emergency section. Only an
anesthesiologist in search of a malpractice suit would have left a woman
"between births" for twins.

And did you love her coming out of an emergency section/surgical
procedure--during which she was supposed to have lost so much blood they were
considering hysterectomy--in a private room vs. a SICU or L&D recovery area?
And looking/sounding perky to boot! And then she is left alone immediately
post-op, post-anesthesia with two babies--one of which is unsafely out of
reach!?!?!?!!?

I wasn't thrilled with the latch-on of the "barracuda" either, but I guess it
was better in terms of info given to her when compared with the rest of the
show! LLLI did send Ms. Hathaway/ER show a copy of Mothering Multiples at my
request--after hearing she planned to breastfeed her show twins. Wonder if
she'll use it?

I admit I felt even more frustrated during the show because I promised my 16
y.o. daughter I'd refrain from my usual commentary, which she said would
"ruin" the show for her. I did scream once--when they took Tess to the
nursery with the comment about being able to give her a supplement. My
daughter then gave me a "long suffering" sort of look!

I've only touched on a few of the highlights that ticked me off when watching
that show, but thanks for letting me get some of this out of my system!

Karen
