Hi all,

The report this morning was the first of several parts. There is another
segment scheduled for tomorrow morning. Actually I thought the report was
pretty good. Not perfect, but pretty good. The reporter Brenda Wilson
ackowledged that the prevention of perinatal transmission of HIV in the
developing world is a very complex issue. A public health expert from Johns
Hopkins said that, in a way, public health efforts to promote breastfeeding in
Zimbabwe had backfired somewhat in regards to HIV, but she also mentioned that
more babies would die from not being breastfed than would die from AIDS. She
also said that the best solution to the transmission of HIV to infants was to
prevent infection of the mothers.

You can listen to the report at the Morning Edition website:

Edwards</A>. Just click on Listen to Today's Show to access Brenda Wilson's
report.

Warmly,
