I helped a mother via telephone just yesterday whose own doctor had
prescribed prednisone for complications from a viral infection post-surgery
(ear).  Doctor told mother she would have to wean her seven week old baby for
the course of the medication- 12 days.  Mother didn't fill the prescription
but waited until she called for more info.  She called her pediatrician and
he didn't know if she could take prednisone and nurse a baby.  She called the
local medical center and they gave her *my* number!  Luckily, I have the '99
Hale and read the info to her verbatim and will send her a copy of the entire
page on prednisone so she can share it with her doc.  The mom kept saying
"How come YOU know this and THEY didn't"?  BTW, mom had been told to wean for
24 hours after general anesthesia for ear surgery AND that she couldn't take
codeine for pain if she was "still breastfeeding" (her baby was then 4 weeks
old!).  She went through a tough 24 hours and never took pain medications
even though she was in pain.

tell her docs to BUY themselves a copy.
