Hi Joanne,
A good reference book that might be of help is Sue Love's book on the Breast.
 She has some chapters on the montgomery glands and other functions of the
breast.  I also find it easy to read, it was published for the lay person.
I would think the more this mom manipulates these tubercles the more
irritated they will become.
