Just recieved a call from a mother of 3 month old twins. She has been doing
some latching with a shield and mostly bottle feeds of pumped
breastmilk(with some formula to bridge gaps in her supply). One baby "just
got it" (mother's words) and is now fully breastfeeding. He is refusing a
bottle altogether. The other baby is geting better at breastfeeding. Mother
is thrilled. I have had this experience many times when following the rules
of: feed the baby, protect the supply and keep on trying. What I am finding
interesting is that these babies that have been primarily bottle fed will
absolutely refuse bottles once they get the breastfeeding. They do not seem
confused but are adamant about preferring the breast. It's always
interesting. Ann Anderson,RN,IBCLC
