Greetings Lactnetters, Lisa Boisvert Mackenzie here, now in Vermont after 5
+ years in Micronesia.

Is there a growth chart for preemies fed exclusively breastmilk? Do
preemies need fortifier? vitamins and minerals? I have searched the
archives. Can someone point me to literature on growth differences between
breastmilk fed and fortified breastmilk fed preemies? This baby is two
weeks old, was born at 32 weeks 2 days, weighed 1385 gr at birth now weighs
1370 after some up and downs with weight gain and a return to bili lights
at 13 days for elevated bili levels( had elevated HCT at birth). Baby is
getting 160 ckd, digesting all, has received breastmilk since day one by
gavage feeding, is now latching and sucking at breast for short bouts
before tiring, but fed primarily by gavage. Baby has had no issues apart
from prematurity, able to breath on his own from birth, doing well
maintaining temperature. Neonatologists are concerned with growth and
possible nutritional deficiencies from and exclusive breastmilk diet.

When do concerns about phosphorus, calcium, iron, vit A E, D become serious
for a preemie?

The baby is mine. Because I have posted to Lactnet for many years as a
professional representing clients, I am sensing it is kosher to post my own
case.If not I am sure the listmothers will tell me.

Warmly,
Lisa Boisvert~Mackenzie
