Annetta - The WHO/UNICEF "Breastfeeding and Maternal Medication:
Recommendations for Drugs in the Essential Drug List" issued by UNICEF New
York, Nutrition Section, January 1995 under section 6.1.1 Intestinal
antihelminthics, lists mebendazole as compatible with breastfeeding.
General information given "There are limited data available on the use of
drugs in this category. However, they act mainly in the intestinal system
of the mother and little is absorbed into the general system. They can be
considered compatible with breastfeeding."

There is also a good amount of info on this drug on page 269 of the December
1994 issue of JHL (Vol 10, No 4).

This may be a silly question, but isn't the PAEDIATRICIAN the one who should
say whether the BABY should receive mother's milk? Does "pumping and
dumping" fall under the obstetrician's area of responsibility? Good luck!
